Keep your tan through the fall the healthy way!

Its about that time of year where the last remains of our summer glow are fading. Losing our tan for most women can make us feel down and less attractive, but do not fall into the urge to lay in a tanning bed! As we all know, the tanning bed is unhealthy and cause skin cancer. What is not so well knows is that the age your tanning can increase your risk as well. Your risk for melanoma increases 75% if you have been exposed to a tanning bed before age 35. Also, how often you tan can make a difference and tanning as little as ten times in one year make your risk 7 times as high. The FDA estimates that about 38,000 people will be diagnosed with melanoma this year in the U.S. and 7,300 people will die from this condition. Aside from the major health risk melanoma, tanning can make wrinkles and dark spots become more prominent and premature aging something NO woman wants.

Because this condition is becoming more of a health issue, there are many new products available to keep your tan radiant through the colder months.  Many local tans have variety of airbrush or spray tans. There are trained professionals who can airbrush on a tan accurately and evenly. If that seems uncomfortable, there are booths you can stand in where your tan is sprayed on and you are in and out within minutes ! There are many different airbrush and spray tan products, so consult with the salon on the ingredients and details of the product. They are usually natural organic products that will not damage your skin and actually include moisturizing agents that could even improve your skin! Aside from salons there are many over the counter tanning agents in forms of foam, sprays, and lotions that you can apply at home. So this winter when you are feeling like you need a burst of color, stay away from the booth and go the healthy route !

The Importance of Exercise for your Mental Health

Women in today's society put a lot of stress and focus on being thin and beautiful. There is a lot of pressure on us to look as perfect as the women we see on television and in the magazines, but whats really important is our health. Aside from physical health, our mental health is something we often put to the side. The stresses of life can become overwhelming, but a little exercise can clear the mind and work wonders on reducing stress. The root of  improvements in mood are proposed to be caused by exercise-induced increase in blood circulation to the brain and by an influence on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which is the physiologic reactivity to stress. This physiologic influence is mediated by the communication of the HPA axis with several regions of the brain, including the limbic system, which controls motivation and mood, the amygdala, which generates fear in response to stress, and the hippocampus, which plays an important part in memory formation as well as in mood and motivation. Exercises such as Aerobics, jogging, swimming, cycling, walking, gardening, and dancing, have also been proved to reduce anxiety and depression. Exercise is actually a treatment used on the mentally ill. It is also proven that people who exercise had significant increases in self esteem, social activity, and cognitive function. Small amounts of exercise can help your sleeping habits become more normal, and sleep is important for the body to function properly in every way.
Aside from the fact that exercise can keep us sane, in can even increase sex drive, and of course improve weight loss!  Any exercise is better than none! The only workout you will regret is the one you didn't do. Not having time is no longer an excuse, make time for at least 20 minutes a day to increase your heart rate and break a sweat. Sometimes that walk into the gym and onto the treadmill can be dreadful, but NOTHING compares to the amazing feeling of accomplishment and instant boost in self esteem when you are finished.

Heart Attack Symptoms & Warning Signs

If you think you're having a heart attack, call 9-1-1 or your emergency medical system immediately.
Some heart attacks are sudden and intense — the "movie heart attack," where no one doubts what's happening. But most heart attacks start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. Often people affected aren't sure what's wrong and wait too long before getting help. Here are signs that can mean a heart attack is happening:
  • Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
  • Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
  • Shortness of breath. May occur with or without chest discomfort.
  • Other signs: These may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness
If you or someone you're with has chest discomfort, especially with one or more of the other signs, don't wait longer than a few minutes (no more than 5) before calling for help. Call 9-1-1... Get to a hospital right away.
Calling 9-1-1 is almost always the fastest way to get lifesaving treatment. Emergency medical services staff can begin treatment when they arrive — up to an hour sooner than if someone gets to the hospital by car. The staff are also trained to revive someone whose heart has stopped. You'll also get treated faster in the hospital if you come by ambulance.

If you can't access the emergency medical services (EMS), have someone drive you to the hospital right away. If you're the one having symptoms, don't drive yourself, unless you have absolutely no other option.
How do I know if a heart attack has occurred?
A doctor who's studied the results of several tests must diagnose a heart attack. The doctor will
  • review the patient's complete medical history.
  • give a physical examination.
  • use an electrocardiogram (e-lek"tro-KAR'de-o-gram) (ECG or EKG) to discover any abnormalities caused by damage to the heart. An ECG is a medical device that makes a graphical record of the heart's electrical activity.
  • sometimes use a blood test to detect abnormal levels of certain enzymes in the bloodstream.
Blood tests confirm (or refute) suspicions raised in the early stages of evaluation that may occur in an emergency room, intensive care unit or urgent care setting. These tests are sometimes called heart damage markers or cardiac enzymes.

Tips on finding the pefect fall cut and color for YOU!

When finding the perfect hair style the key is balance !If you have a heart Heart shaped face, try a sweep  bang to draw attention to your eyes and cheekbones. If you have a square  face with defined jaw bones, you should experiment with choppy layers or curls to add softness. If your have a round face your goal would be to make your face appear longer and leaner. To do this you would avoid too much volume around the face by longer layers and wispy ends. For women with a longer face, sometimes bangs are suggested to make your hair appear shorter or even a short bob cut. For people who are anti-shot hair, try playing around with curls and waves to add some width !
To find the perfect color for your skin tone there is one simple rule you need to remember. You have to decipher whether your skin tone is cool or warm. People with warm skin tones look the best with warm hair colors, it looks the most natural. People with cool skin tones look the best with cool hair colors, such as ash blondes or browns as opposed to auburn brown or strawberry blondes. Easy right ? Every one tends to go darker in the fall, but the best way to do so is to do it gradually so you are not left in shock! And remember there are many different hues of "Brown". Now when your in the salon looking for a change you will have a guide to finding a look that fits you perfectly.
